Artist | Gabriel Gyurjyan was born in Turkey in 1892.
He graduated from the Penza Higher Art and Pedagogical Workshops (1920), where he studied with IS. Goryushkina-Sorokopudova et al .; taught there (until 1922). Since 1922 he has lived in Yerevan. One of the organizers of the Society of Fine Arts Workers and AHRD branch in Armenia (member in 1925-1932). He wrote mainly landscapes of Armenia, including industrial ones, marked by epic grandeur and restraint of color (“Construction of the Shirak Canal Dam”, 1926; “Sevansangstroy”, 1937; “Azat River in the Garni Gorge”, 1945; all – Armenian KG, Yerevan ; “Cotton Collection in the Ararat Valley”, 1949, TSG). He taught in Yerevan – at the Art and Technical College (1923-1935) and the Art Institute (1945-1952; professor since 1947). |
