Artist | Lawr Kusmitsch Plakhov (1810 in the Russian Empire ; † February 8, July / February 20, 1881 in Saint Petersburg , Russian Empire) was a Russian genre painter , lithographer and photographer.
From 1829 Plakhov received instruction from Alexei Wenezianow , whose painting school he is attributed to. From 1832 to 1836 he studied lithography under Karl (Joachim) Beggrow and painting under Maxim Vorobjow at the Imperial Art Academy in St. Petersburg. He then went to Eduard Pistorius’ studio in Berlin. Shortly after, he moved to Dusseldorf and worked from 1836 to 1842 at Adolph Schroedter. In 1842 he returned to Russia, where he painted the life of simple rural people in the mid-1840s. At the end of the 1840s, he turned to photography . In 1851 he published twenty daguerreotypes showing the knight Swjatogor . Plakhov traveled a lot in Russia; in particular he lived in Vilna , Minsk and Kharkiv . He died impoverished in St. Petersburg in 1881. |
