Type | Pictorial Post card |
Artist | Roman Maksimovich Volkov (1773-1831 or 1836 [1]) – Russian portrait painter.
Biographical information about the artist is extremely scarce. He studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts, in 1808 he received the title of academician for the creation of the painting “The Baptism of Christ” (now it is in the State Russian Museum).
During his lifetime, Volkov was best known for his portrait of Emperor Alexander the First.
The incredible success among the descendants accompanied the portrait of Field Marshal Kutuzov performed by Volkov. This portrait, really expressive and successful from an artistic point of view, was then reproduced countless times and is still being reproduced in publications dedicated to Kutuzov and the Patriotic War of 1812.. |
