Description Stepan Karapetovich Alaverdyan (1888 – August 14, 1920) was a participant in the struggle for Soviet power in Armenia. One of the leaders of the Communist Party of Armenia.

 

Biography

He was born in Kutaisi in the family of an employee. In 1915 he graduated from the Economics Department of the Moscow Commercial Institute.

 

Member of the RSDLP (b) since 1904. He led Party work in Moscow, Tiflis, Kutaisi, and Erevan. In 1917 he headed the Bolshevik faction of the Sarykamysh Council. In July 1918, he was arrested by the Georgian Menshevik government and expelled from Georgia.

In September 1919 he was elected to the leading center of the communist organizations of Armenia – Armenkom. One of the leaders of the armed uprising against the Dashnaks in May 1920. After the suppression of the uprising (1920) was arrested and on August 14 was shot by the Dashnaks.
